So, why the Pluto Effect?

The Great Teacher of the Age of Pisces told us that we cannot pour new wine into old skins without compromising its value or quality. Hence, the inept consequences of the previous Age must be erased, to make room for new ideas, for new lessons to be absorbed by our psyches.
Thus, the Pluto Effect.
The destruction of the old to make room for the new. The destruction of the present social, economic, military, yes, even religious powers, to make room for something completely different—beyond our imagination. Remember the statement recorded in the Revelation, “I make all things new”? Well, so it will be this time.

From the astronomical reasons, our Earth not only rotates, but also wobbles on its axis. The wobble can best be understood by watching a spinning top. As the rotation slows, the top begins to wobble. It is this wobble, which over time brings about changes in the direction of the Polar Axis. One complete revolution of the wobble takes place in 25,920 years, which happens to correspond to the completion of the 12 signs of the Zodiac, allowing each Age to last about 2160 years. And that is how long the new Age, the Age of Aquarius, will last. Then, a Man, a new Avatar, will appear and say, once again, “I make all things new”.
World without end…
Such wobbly rotation of the Earth axis brings, over thousands of years, substantial climatic changes. We can ‘soften’ the effects of global warming, but we cannot eliminate it. We must learn to cope with it.
Hence, since everything affects everything else, we move from astrology, which in the old days was considered a science, to astronomy, which touches on the wisdom of the ages.

Of course, one day, in the foreseeable (about 5) billions of years, our sun will have exhausted its hydrogen at its core, and will expand into a red giant. On Earth this action will boil its oceans and blow away our atmosphere. I hope, by then, people will accept the premise that we are all spiritual beings, entities of individualized consciousness, and float happily on solar wind to other, not necessarily greener but most certainly more exciting and challenging new pastures, to face and conquer new realities which are yet come into being.
That is the joy of being immortal; and the realities we create—infinite. In Book Three of the Aquarius Trilogy, with provisional title the 7the Race, I shall attempt to give you a foretaste of such potential, right here, on Earth. I shall attempt to raise the veil and share with you a peek of the potential that dwells within us, waiting to be discovered.
Yet, even then, the rules of the universe will prevail. The many will continue to follow the few, as in my forthcoming novel Peter and Paul.

The Pluto Effect

This is a first advanced whisper about the intended sequel to my novel WALL, subtitled Love, Sex, and Immortality, which will expand the exploits of Simon and Ambrosia, into a full-blown Trilogy. Book Two would be named the Pluto Effect, and deal with the first phase of the Age of Aquarius in which the destructive elements assigned to Pluto would be manifest.
No, the book will NOT be about astrology, not even strictly Sci-Fi, although Aquarius, (Greek Hudrokhöos) is the seventh sign of the Zodiac, and number seven symbolizes individual perfection of man—hence my old passion for Human Potential. It, the sign, originates in the constellation of Aquarius and that is where the connection to astrology ends.

What concerns us are the lessons which each age is intended to impart on us. This is important, since the order in which we acquire new skills, or attributes, dictates how well the human race will survive each successive cycle. Yes, the whole species. Unbeknownst to most of us, we cannot advance until we do so as a whole species. Rampant egotism, which seems to have many of us in its fetters, is holding us back.
Each Age offers new lessons.
The Age of Aries, during which Moses was the great teacher, we were supposed to have learned control over our thoughts. When the Torah advises us to “go forth and multiply”, it is not referring to your sexual drive, but to increase the range of our thoughts. Try my Dictionary of Biblical Symbolism. It will help explain many other apparent mysteries. The Dictionary has nothing to do with religion. It is an attempt to understand the knowledge, which our forefathers have accumulated over millennia. As for the old adage that thoughts are things, that they profoundly affect our lives, just happens to be true.
The following age, the Age of Pisces, or fish, under the teaching of Yeshûa, tells us to learn about the unity of all mankind. The commandment to “love one another” means little more than, at the very essence of our being, we are one. When we lose the ability to tell the difference between “them” and “us”, we will have fulfilled the lesson assigned to the Age of Pisces. Regrettably, “many are called, but few are chosen”, even if it is we who make the choice.
Finally, at least for the present and a number of forthcoming generations, during the Age of Aquarius, the individual man, speaking generically, by the implicit command of his/her thoughts will wield enormous power. We might call it “the empowerment of the individual”. What in the past took a whole army to accomplish now a single individual can do so by, e.g. constructing an a-bomb on his/her kitchen table; if not today, then tomorrow. And let us not forget that we never failed to use all means at our disposal.
Hence, “love one another”, or… else.
Depending how well we’ve learned the lessons of previous Ages, we shall be able to exercise this power for or against our ‘neighbour’.

Economic Growth

In my essay Life (Beyond Religion I) I indicate the rate at which the cells multiply. It seems that from that moment on we, the Homo supposedly sapiens (the latter word that implying wisdom), are obsessed with growth. Never mind whether it is good or bad, as long as it is bigger, longer or more idiotic than anything we could think of before. At least that is how our minds appear to work. We are born, we mature, we stop growing. Surely, people who want to keep growing are still immature. If they continue to grow, they just get fat and ugly. Well, fat, anyway.
We increased the population of the world well beyond the minimum necessary to sustain and preserve our species. Our buildings get taller, our airplanes fly faster, we need more than one house, more than one polluting car, our budgets get bigger…
Ah, yes. Our budgets get bigger. As do our debts. Much bigger.
No one seems to ask why? Why must we grow?
If we are immortal—and most Christians, Moslem, Hindus and Buddhist claim we are—why must we have everything today? At once… if not sooner?

The governments want to have a larger tax-base. The churches want bigger tithes. But… what’s in it for us, as individuals? Why should we increase our families, our budgets, domains, houses, cars, just about all our possessions? It’s not as if we could take any of the above with us? Will a premature heart attack for having to chase after the almighty dollar make us happy enough to make up for the peace, leisure, time to read, wonder the parks, enjoying the beauty of nature, perhaps write some poetry…?
Why must we destroy nature, poison our lakes and rivers, give respiratory diseases to our children, ah yes, and start wars to impose our dubious morality on others?
Why must we grow in quantity instead of in quality? We began in Eden. Now, the world we live is hardly makes any sense.
Must we continue to live in a world based on and filled with Delusions?

Reward or Punishment?

Your physical body is the brick and mortar of the temple housing your consciousness. Without it you are no more, at least, no more in the physical reality. Yet, according to expert nutritionists we limit our lifespan by an act of our will, or at least, of our stomach.
According to the United Nations estimates for years 2005-2010, the average life expectancy at birth in the US is 78.2. I suppose most peoples’ bodies are too heavy a burden to carry around any longer. Or, maybe, they are just fed up with the Washington shenanigans.
It doesn’t have to be that bad.

In Hunza, in central Asia, it is not unusual for elderly persons to reach the venerable age of 130. It has even been reported that a significant number have survived to the incredible age of 145!
The Abkhazians in southern Russia The year 1974 saw celebrations for the 140th birthday of a lady in that region…  She was 85 when she joined a collective farm; at 104 she travelled to Moscow for the USSR's first agricultural exhibition; at 128 she was still working. Her speed and skill made her a model for the other workers.
So much for Russian table d’hôte?
There is more.
Vilcabambans in Andes of South America have their own story to tell. The Vilcabamba Legend has it that this quirky town is home to some of the oldest people on earth. (Although they are said to life only into their one-hundredth year and longer)
Elsewhere, Blue Zones reports about the Okinawans in Japan that: Their purpose-imbued lives gives them clear roles of responsibility and feelings of being needed well into their 100s.”
So much for the good stuff. At least good until we choose Immortality.
The very same United Nations report rates some 18 countries below a life expectations of 50 years. The CIA World Factbook rate them slightly lower in their 2011 estimate. Perhaps the CIA assists those countries in lowering their average, or perhaps their figures vary by accident only. The worst among these are Zambia, Angola and Swaziland where a child born today can hardly expect to reach 40. Few do.

We, in North America, have a choice. Our bodies have evolved over millions of years from components found in plants; in fruits and vegetables. We became omnivores, and recently mostly carnivores, only fairly recently. We like to eat what we kill, to assert our superiority over the animal kingdom. Sadly, we pay with our lives. A daily relaxation exercise followed by a healthy diet would add, some 20 to 30 years to our average lifespan. Perhaps more.
Not everyone has a choice—we do. It is up to us.

Unless, of course, unless we deem that long life is a not a reward but a punishment for the way we conducted ourselves on Earth. Some say that only the good die young. If so, then North America is, or soon will be, right up there among the leaders in Africa.

Aging is not Required

There is an old saying: If you don’t use it, you lose it. There are other sayings such as: You are what you eat, which is also true, providing we limit its consequences to physical body. The food we eat will hardly make us a better person morally or ethically. There is a truth, however, which never filtered into our awareness.

We are what we think we are.

There is a catch, however. Unless we imprint the traits we think desirable in our subconscious, then just “thinking about them” will not do us much good.
And here’s why.
It is not our conscious but our subconscious mind that is the true creator of our reality.
The creative process is relatively simple. The ideas originate in our unconscious then migrate into our conscious mind. Here we examine them and, if we find them beneficial to our wellbeing, we get involved with them. This involvement, which often requires mental, emotional, and physical effort, imprints them on our subconscious. And it is here that the execution of the idea is actually put into action. It is here, in our subconscious, that the idea becomes manifest in our reality. The good (or bad) thing is that once an idea is imbedded in our subconscious, its consequences become automatic.
Ergo, we must be very careful what we choose to imbed in our subconscious, or what we choose to truly believe in.

And now we come to aging.
As I mentioned in my previous blog, the world is set on automatic. While we are equipped with a most fantastic immune system that works full time to repair the damage we inflict on our cells, the system is more or less resigned to the reproducing the building blocks of our body based on the latest model available. If we want to improve on the previous model we must reprogram our subconscious. If successful, we shall direct our subconscious to reconstruct our body on the original model, before it suffered the vicissitudes of wear and tear. Our abilities will, surely, not suffice to make our physical embodiment immortal, but they would assure us of a healthier, more productive life.
I’ve often heard an adage that “at a certain age we can’t expect to feel any better”. When we substitute the can for we can’t, we shall take the first step to remain longer useful members of our society. Or, we can take the direction my mother took in The Gate—Things my Mother told me. Our choice.
I, for one, intend to die because I want to, not because my body has failed me. But, there again, I do not consider myself to be my physical body. I merely live in it, use it, and when ready, intend to move onto greener pastures. You can too.

The End Game

It has been said that: “It ain’t over until the fat lady sings.” The saying refers to the Opera, yet now, in the “West”, the vast majority of ladies are fat. Or, close to it. So, it seems, whichever lady sings she’ll signal the end of The Last Act.
The Last Act of the Western Civilization.
Of course, it doesn’t have to be all bad. In fact, if I were younger, I’d be looking forward to the day when the West in general, and the USA in particular, would no longer need to consider themselves the Leaders or, at the very least, the Policeman of the world. There was a time when the USA led the world by example, not by spending more on armaments than the next ten countries put together. Nobody likes a bully, and only bullies need more arms than anybody else.
Back to the fat ladies. We are approaching the Last Act, anyway. Don’t believe? Listen to Chris Hodges.

It doesn’t have to be all bad. Perhaps the fat sopranos (and tenors) will get a little slimmer. Perhaps each American child will only leave a trail of waste 10 times bigger than children of eastern nations, instead of 20 times as big. Perhaps we shall all become more human, you know… the way we all were before the mighty dollar destroyed our sense of proportion. Before the capitalism gone wild became a rampart force that destroyed most of our minds and souls. Perhaps…
It seems that the human species advances into the murky, unknown future in cycles. Jainism teaches that there is neither end, nor beginning—just cycles.
Perhaps…
Many years ago H.P. Blavatsky, in her book Esoteric Buddhism, which Albert Einstein is said to have kept it on his bedside table, wrote that the next “super race” would be yellow. No, it will not be a bigger, stronger copy of the American model. It will be as different from the US as US is different from the British Empire, as it was different from the Romans and all the intermediate feeble attempts to rule the world. It seems that even then she was right. Perhaps we should try to learn how to help them, the Yellow Race, with the experience we acquired, to avoid our mistakes. Perhaps they might last longer than we did.
Perhaps.
And what can we do with our lives? One option is offered in Winston’s Kingdom. I’m sure you’ll think of others. As for my option, you might enjoy it more if you try parts One and Two of the Winston Trilogy first. Perhaps.

Genesis

Moses had a problem. His people weren’t bad at obeying orders from well-trained Egyptians, but their creativity, let alone self-esteem, was non-existent. If they remained in Egypt any longer they would succumb to all the idols to which the Egyptians assigned all power. His people were slaves. They simply had no idea how to stand up on their own feet, how to cope on their own. Moses cogitated for hours, days, how he might awaken his people; how he could explain to them that the power to create lay within them. He dreamt of taking them out into the dessert, but with their present mindset they wouldn’t last a week.
And then he had an idea.
He’d tell them how the world came into being. Surely, even the dumbest amongst them would understand that. Only he would have to be careful. If he assigned the creative process to Yahweh, all would be lost. They would think that only Yahweh had the power. So he invented “Objects of Worship”. He called them Elohim. Like his people. Weren’t they all objects of worship? Weren’t they all endowed with the Infinite Creative Potential?
He had to show them that although they emerged from darkness—light, or knowledge, comes from within. He’d start with an idea. Gradually it would take shape. That’s what creativity is all about. Slowly he had to fill the idea with details, as though with life of its own until it took shape, become real.
He had to make it big. Bigger than life—to excite them, to get them fired up. Heaven and earth, and earth and water and animals and fish, they all had to be there, to make the idea real. Tangible. Beautiful. Inviting. He had to teach them how the creative process works. They were simple folk. They could neither read nor write. He had to tell them the story in such a way that they would remember. If not the story then at least the process.
The Genesis. The Creative Process.
He had to show them that nothing was impossible. Nothing was beyond their capabilities, no matter how simple they were. How uneducated. He had to show them that they were truly the children of the Most High.

Next evening he brought them all together. And then he began…
In the beginning Elohim created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void…
They were simple, uneducated, illiterate people. He talked deep into the night. They listened in silence, rapt, feeling that great knowledge was being imparted to them. And slowly, very slowly, light dawned within their consciousness.

Millennia have passed.
And now, today, there are people who spend their lifetimes attempting to interpret Moses’ teaching as though it were history or some kind of pseudo-scientific dissertation.
Shame on us.

More on the subject in: Beyond Religion I Genesis.

On Suffering

Gautama Buddha has done humanity a great disservice. Of course, the same can be said of most ‘saviors’, great teachers, sometimes known as gurus. Not that it was ever their fault. They spoke the truth. Only later men, too lazy to dig into deeper understanding, or just plain dishonest, either twisted or perverted their teaching to benefit financially, or to gain control over the minds of other people.
So what else is new, you might well ask?
Well, I intend to set the record straight.
The great Avatars had but one, single, purpose in mind, and that was to teach us how to be happy. Aristippus of Cyrene, the student of Socrates was right. He and the Hedonists got it right, though hardly anyone else did.
Show me a single statue of Buddha, which is not replete and elated in smiles. The name Krishna, his predecessor, simply means “pleasure”. “All Pleasure”, to be exact. And Yeshûa, affirmed that: “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” If you want to know how to put it into practice, look at Francis of Assisi. There are, of course, other ways.

Just where is the suffering? Where’s the blood, the scourging, fasting, the “giving up”, the sacrifice, the misery, the thousand and one dos and don’ts imposed on the poor, befuddled, muddled, bewildered, disoriented, fazed, stupefied, mixed up, discombobulated sheep of various religions? Poor “believers”. If only they took the trouble to find out the truth behind the purported clarifications, elucidations, interpretations and exegeses of the learned (ever miserable) doctors of theology, and listened to the Masters themselves. If only…
If only… they, too, would be happy.

I wrote a little story (I called it ‘essay’) on, “Spiritual Life”. You’ll find it in Beyond Religion II, on Amazon Kindle. Or in Smashwords. Try to enjoy it, even if it hurts… just a little.

Visualizing Reality

To visualize well, simply means, to imprint on our subconscious. That’s how our life manifests. That’s how history is made. That’s how we became what we are, today. That is how ‘miracles’ happen.
There is a fundamental difference between being (vaguely) aware of something and actually knowing something. It is comparable to the biblical expression that even if our faith were as small as a grain of mustard seed, we would move mountains. That is a metaphor, of course, but the essence is there. It is only when we commit knowledge deep enough to become part of our subconscious that it becomes integrated into our ‘true’ reality. Once there, it will, sooner or later, become manifest in our physical reality as well.
Why you may ask?
Because thoughts are the force behind the creative process, and our conscious mind is but a tip of the iceberg. The real power lies beneath the turbulent waters of our physical reality. It lies within the memory stored in our subconscious over millions, perhaps billions, of years.
To repeat, we must never forget that the physical reality we experience is the product of our thoughts and emotions. Whatever we truly believe in is real, to us, though sometimes only to us. No two people see reality in an identical way. That is as it should be, since diversity of expression is how the universe operates. By the universe I mean the sum total of the manifested, or the visible, tangible, world. Needless to say, an infinite number of alternative realities wait to be discovered within the, as yet un-manifested, infinite potential of our unconscious.
Yes. It is all within us. All of it. In its potential form.
Isn’t it fun?
The day we discover that we, and we alone, are the creators of the universe we live in, we begin to understand the concept of “ye are gods”. Of course, from that day on we can never again blame anyone for the universe we’ve created. It is like coming of age; like reaching adulthood; or, as Buddha would say, “of coming truly awake”. The potential for this awakening lies dormant within all of us. [If you don’t believe me, ask Buddha].
We imprint new realities on your subconscious by the process of visualization. To heal oneself we do not visualize the process of healing, but the result of it.[1] We must see ourselves completely healthy, in every sense of the word. Those who accept the existence of one’s “Higher Self”, one’s spiritual component, must simply attempt to visualize one’s perfect I AM, and finding It’s expression in the physical reality. After all, I AM is perfect.
There is more about this in my book, Visualization — Creating Your Own Universe. You might even become a conscious creator of your reality. Try it.

[1]. Although some advocate visualizing the process of healing taking place. This seems to work only if one knows exactly what is wrong.

Green-eyed Monster

Money is not the root of evil. Love of money is. It seems that we, humans, never learn. We not only don’t improve, become more enlightened, but constantly search for more physical, sensual if not sexual satisfaction. We are descending from the heights of Edenic state of near-perfection to the animalistic expression of most primitive fauna. Why, you ask? Because of the Green-eyed Monster.
Because of greed.
CEO’s salaries come to mind. Thank god we are not all CEOs, or the average morality of the human race would descent to the abysmal depth of materialistic gutter.
Pease note the following.
In countries spanning from Japan, through Germany, France, Italy, Canada, South Africa, Britain, Mexico and Venezuela, the CEO’s salaries range from 11 times all the way to 50 times the wage of an average worker. 50 x average sounds like an incredibly greedy disparity until we look at a comparative ratio in the United States of America. There, believe it or not, the ratio is 325:1. In the good-old USA, the CEOs, on average, glut themselves with 325 times the salaries of the people they employ.
I thought I’ve heard the worst until on Tuesday Oct.2nd, 2012, the ABC News reported: “2,400 millionaires received unemployment insurance benefits during the economic downturn…”
I thought this was a misprint until I read on. The report continued to say that:

“In 2009, 2,362 millionaires received unemployment benefits, down from 2,840 the year prior, according to a study from the Congressional Research Service, a non-partisan arm of U.S. Congress that provides policy and legal analysis. Of the 2,362 more than 1,000 receiving unemployment benefits had a household adjusted gross income of $1.5 million in 2009.”
There is greed and there is greed. But some people are no longer human. They are green-eyed monsters.
What we must never forget, however, is that the vast majority of us are good, honest, working folk, contributing to not only our own wellbeing but that of the whole society.

If you want to read more on the subject, I recommend my essay “The Green Eyed Monster” from my collection Beyond Religion III. It reaches further into the insidious aspect of envy. You can also get the book for virtually any other electronic reader listed on my webpage http://stanlaw.ca
Enjoy!

Black and White Magic or Love

The total Reality is ‘stored’ in our subconscious. It is a state of consciousness, made to measure, individualized by each one of us.
We create our heavens, our hells, our universes. We see the world as no one else can. Others can approximate our view, but never see it exactly as we do. That is why we are individuals—the inseparable components of the Whole. Love is the single most powerful force that enables us to do that. To be individuals.
If, within the universe of our creation, we are to be surrounded by people we love, than the time to start accumulating them is now. We don’t see people as they really are, only as we see them from a singular point of view.  If we want to rub shoulders with them, or with anybody, for countless eon in our ‘heavens’ (long periods between reincarnations), we’d better start thinking of them, of all people, as they really are. And that is, to see them as the embodiments of I AM.
Yes, every single one of us is an embodiment of the immortal, perfect, indestructible I AM, which, all too often, has as much of a problem showing Itself through the mask of the physical (mental and emotional) shroud as we have in perceiving It. But It is there—quiet, undemanding, loving unconditionally.
Sounds absurd, doesn’t it. The most powerful force in the universe sits back and watches us doing the best we can. Why? Because love does not impose. Let us never forget that love is the opposite of power. The more power you have, the lesser is your love.
I wrote in an essay on Power :
“Power first proposes, then imposes, finally forces us to obey. “For our own good”, of course. It takes away our freedom of choice, offers to do our thinking for us, lowers our resistance until we succumb to it. Power corrupts our minds, our ability to be individuals, to respect individuality; but mostly it corrupts the one exercising such power over others. You must be noble before you can be corrupted. Corruption is another word for compromise. Both jeopardize ethics. The greater the compromise the greater the corruption. As I mentioned before, power is the opposite of love. You can always compromise on power, never on love.”
There is more.

For now let us remember that thoughts are ‘things’. If you think yourself sick long enough, sick you will get. The same applied to our thoughts directed at people.  If we imagine someone in bad light such thought are paramount to Black Magic. To see them in good light—is White Magic. To see them as I AM—is to see them as they really are. Perfect. Friends for all eternity.

Wanton Destruction

Sometime ago, a very wise man by the name of Chris Hodges, reached some stunning conclusions. His sentiments ran thus:
“We now live in a nation where doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the press destroys information, religion destroys morals, and our banks destroy the economy.”
What can I say, when the man is right—he’s right.

Then I asked myself what, if any, other than the stupidity and greed of the perpetrators, might be the reason for all of the above. They say that every cause has an effect, and there no effects without underlying reasons.
Thus, what could have been, what is, the reason for the litany of devastation composed by Chris Hodges? I repeat, there must be a reason why all of the above, if true, is taking place.
I made a single all-inclusive suggestion in my book Delusions. Drawing on the vast compendium of knowledge amassed by H.P. Blavatsky, I concluded that, contrary to ‘evolutionist’, ecclesiastic or scientific theories, we are, in fact, in an accelerated process of devolution. Every item in Hodges’ list attests to that.
Is there a way out?
There is always a way out. First, we must remember that devolution concerns only the general direction that affects, and controls the masses. Individuals always have a choice. Quite simply, we must change the direction. Instead of becoming ever more materially minded, we must reverse direction and try to discover what is our true purpose. If we are concerned exclusively with our physical health, with justice without mercy or forgiveness, with control of people by extending the power of governing bodies, by lapping up all dehumanizing events reported by our news media, with supporting religions which have long forgotten the principles on which they have been built, and finally by using the services of organizations built exclusively on greed where material wealth is all that matters… then we are getting exactly what we are seeking.

Believe it or not, Peter and Paul (coming soon) had to face almost identical problems in their time. Has time stopped?
May I suggest that each one of us tries to make his or her own list of direct opposites of Hodges’ list. I did. My world is no longer devolving. To see alternate (dire?) possibilities, try my novel Headless World—The Vatican Incident.

A Singular Point of View

Sometime ago, I wrote an essay, Mirror of a Lesser God, which dealt with problems we all encounter in marriage. It has been inspired by a movie entitled Children of a Lesser God, although other than a partial title, it had nothing to do the film. Of course, in relation to the Source of Infinite Potential, we are all children, if for no other reason that we have infinity of growth in front of us. We’re immortal, remember?
Now after years of observations, I note that what is true of marital relationships holds true for the rest of humanity. We are only capable of seeing those errors in others, which we harbor, perhaps deep below the surface of our consciousness, in ourselves. I am reminded of the biblical saying that god’s eyes are too pure to see evil. Well, ours are not. We are rather good in perceiving evil in those we live with; also in governments, churches, teachers, perhaps co-workers. In all people other than in our own selves.

Of course, there is not such thing as evil. Ask any accused. There is only a difference of opinion. Yet the direct consequence of disagreement is that we invariably blame others for our own (hidden) inadequacies.
Those who have a-bombs shout the loudest to stop others from having them. “Keep the taxes down”, scream the richest amongst us. “We love peace”, shout the manufacturers and dealers in arms louder than anyone else in the world. The rest of us think of ourselves as being above such mundane weaknesses. To repeat, our eyes are not too pure to see inequities in others.
Love thy enemies? You must be kidding!
What is more, our recollection of events in interpersonal relations is NEVER objective, as we, all of us, are capable of looking at things from a single point of view. Even a child knows that things (events) look different from different sides, yet we, adults, tend to forget this self-evident limitation.
There is a way out.
“Judge not, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned…”[1]
Of course, we could say that this is an old, outdated, expression that belongs only to religious zealots.
Or… we could say that it has absolutely nothing to do with any religion, and see if it works in real life. National debt? Think of the trillions of dollars we’d save on armaments alone, if we did that!
But, you might ask, wouldn’t it be dangerous?
For whom? For the immortals?
