Allow me to remind you what Yeshûa, later known as Jesus, had to say about the priesthood of His day. He identified the Pharisees and scribes as serpents and vipers, by showing that their teaching brought death, not life to people. They probably imposed their misguided interpretations of the scriptures on people, in order to control their minds, and assure obedience from their followers.
What, may I ask, has changed since?
The present day priesthood appear to continue in the same vein. They totally ignore the original meaning of the scriptures, placing themselves as the sole interpreters of the Bible (including the Torah), as the infallible authority, thus, the word of God. If they mentioned the possibility that the scribes who wrote the words in ancient Hebrew might have made a mistake, that those who inspired the words/stories/parables were "only" human, less harm would have been done.
Of course, they would also make less money?
After all, wasn't the Bible written of "ordinary" men and women?
Indeed, the temples, the churches, the basilicas, were not build for free. Nor were the magnificent works of art that adorn them. There is only one problem. Yeshûa had also said that His kingdom was NOT of this world. The magnificent edifices raised in His name were.
Was it merely a misunderstanding of willful grasp for power. Power for the control of peoples' minds. Through fear? After all, if Heaven, according to Yeshûa is within us, hence, a State of Consciousness, isn't Hell likewise? Aren't both here and now? In the... eternal NOW?
I'd suggest that we all think about this. And if we really want to know the truth recorded in the scriptures, I'd suggest two things.
1. Stop regarding the Bible as a religious document, and
2. Take time to reread it using my DICTIONARY OF BIBLICAL SYMBOLISM. It might help you learn what the ancients intended by their inspired writings. It certainly helped me.
My Dictionary does NOT interpret. It merely translates the 3300 Hebrew and ancient Greek words, which for thousands of years remained not translated. Obviously, it must have been forbidden knowledge, not to be cast before swine (Matthew 7:6). Evidently, the true meaning was inconvenient for those who were building a kingdom in this transient, illusory reality.
