I wanted to peek at the weather forecast. Scrawling the channels, I accidentally run through the Thanksgiving Parade in New York. I've never seen such an underwhelming display in my life. I've seen thousands screaming at baseball matches, more thousands at football... in various countries, but there the public paid for tickets which included taxes which benefited others.
But this was different.
Hundreds of people dressed up in preposterous attires, marched, hopped, jerked and rode idiotic floats, accompanied by countless enormous balloons, plus more clowns making an unholy noise with brass instruments. And, I suspect, it was for public money, or at least, tax deductible, while many are homeless and starving...
So many, I thought, so many partaking in such display of senility.
So many...
And then I remembered. There were as many parades in Europe, perhaps the rest of the world, where people tried to escape reality they could not face.
Hundreds of performers but thousands of spectators, and millions glued to their TV screens. No, not just Americans. The world has gone mentally sterile. Have we all reached the nadir of juvenile senility? And not just the few, nor just a nation, but humanity?
And we had such a wonderful potential...
All of us?
And then I remembered the wisdom of the ages. "Many are called, but only a few are chosen." "Many", they didn't say "all". Throughout the world, "all" were never called. They were abandoned children who served a god of stupidity without ever knowing that there are other gods, other pursuits, other ambitions.
Yet, there was a time of greatness. Yes, in America. Remember the Marshall Plan? The greatest show of generosity the World has ever seen?
And then greed settled in, and.. America never recovered. I'm sure they still harbour a few... very few, as wondrous, as marvelous, men, women, as the few who had written their Constitution. A Constitution long forgotten.
Yet there is hope.
The Age of Aquarius is here. It might awaken the potential in the many. Perhaps in all? Will, one day, America be great, again? Well, only if we learn to listen... Perhaps there truly is Magic in the Zodiac.
Please, don't give up.
